EMV Certification allowing secure card payments in toll lanes
MultiToll has received EMVCo Terminal approval Level 1 for several types of its smart card reader controller. Our solution is being deployed on two highway networks to handle secure credit card payment transactions in toll lanes, in compliance with the EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa) specifications. These payment controllers are incorporated into MultiToll motorized smart card reader used by a large number of highway companies world-wide. The new compact version of the reader is designed to be integrated into any toll payment terminal.
This new electronic banking solution meets the requirements of motorway toll operators to equip their existing toll lanes with the necessary functions and equipment for the secure treatment of smart cards. So far, only the magnetic striped cards were used for card payments on toll highways. EMV standards have changed the obligations by now requiring motorway management to read the smart card chip for all toll transactions, without requiring a PIN code.
